Community service is a way we can come together to serve our local community. It is a way we can grow together and unite our community. Values such as humbleness, gratefulness, honesty, sincerity and respect are among the important virtues that we can acquire from helping others.
UTHSC ASDA shows continued commitment to community service by holding monthly Target House events where members serve dinner to children and their families who are receiving treatment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We spend time with the kids doing crafts and watching movies. By volunteering our time to serve at Target House, we play a small part in helping to make the families stay more pleasant. We also participate in clothing drives with Salvation Army and were recently able to donate 39 bags of clothing to our local community in need. Our theme was “Share The Love” and the event took place during the week of Valentine’s Day.
In the future, new volunteer events will be added to better serve our local community in all areas of need. We hope to volunteer at a local animal shelter, participate in an event where we can provide food for the homeless and volunteer at our local Memphis botanical garden. No matter the volunteer opportunity, we always appreciate the willingness of our members to help others in need.
